Food Documentary will Impact Restaurant Industry Trends
The western diet is costing billions per year. Every fast food restaurant in America combined post annual revenues of $170 billion. The cost of treating obesity alone is $120 billion annually. When you add in the costs to tax payers for agricultural subsidies that perpetuate our food system, the cost of heart disease, stroke, etc., we are spending mountains more in keeping the broken food system we have rather than replacing it with the one we should have. Beyond the costs financially, the way we eat is killing us – literally.
While I’m not ready to jump to full-on veganism myself just yet, I am more than convinced to change the way I eat. This sentiment is catching on too. Quickly. It is urged on by powerful food documentaries and acute pains brought on by bad diets and poor nutrition. Eventually, more restaurant industry marketers will catch on as well and collectively we can change our global food system for the better. There are a plethora of restaurant industry trends that will emerge from changes taking root right now. Chipotle has already caught on and as a result was rewarded by being the top restaurant industry stock in 2010; posting gains of 170%.
